マンションかんころ続報 Kankoro in the building

マンションでも、カンコロが作れるか、という命題に、チャレンジ。
We tried to make dried sweet potate at our balcony.

２日目で、かなり、乾く in two days

なかなか、いいのでは？ looking good

天候にも恵まれ、順調にカラカラとなった、カンコロ。
途中、大きなネズミ（ナノカ）が、かじって、多少の目減りはあったものの、
３本のサツマイモから、袋いっぱいのカンコロが出来上がった。
Thanks to good weather, we succeeded to make good quolity of dried sweet potate. It was special food for Nagasaki region. This area is made of mountaineer hills and no plain field to plant rice, so people, especially poor hidden Christian planted the sweet potate to survive. Kankoro is the food that they preserve the sweet potate during winter and eat them for a year.

測ってみる。

３２０グラム a week after I got 320g dried sweet potate

キロ単位で取引されているカンコロ。
先日、小値賀のゆで干し芋協会の総会で話し合われてた数量は
１０キロ単位であったことを考えると、その労力や原料の量などが、推し量られる。
I only got 320g. Farmers made 100kg or so.  I imagined how hard they worked.

魚目小学校の子どもに、
「かんころ餅の良さを、何も知らない、東京の小学生に伝えるとしたら、どうする？」
と質問した時に、
「１年かけて、かんころ餅を作ってもらう」
と答えた子がいて、いい意見だなあ、と思ったが、
実際に作って、初めて、わかることが、ある。
We asked students of Uonome elemetary school in Kami-Goto island,
"How do you tell the good point of Kankoromochi to Tokyo city kids?"
and one student answered,
"If they plant sweet potate and took care for a year, then make dried sweet potate and cook Kankoromochi from them, they would know."
I was very moved to his opinion.

私たちも、作ってみて、初めて実感したことがある。
それは、
「カンコロが、乾いていく様子に、毎日が、ワクワクする」
ということだ。
We learnt from only when we experience.
What we learnt from our balcony dring days was
"We were just so excited to check how much dried they became every day"

私も、ナノカも、朝起きては、カンコロを覗き、
家に帰って来ては、カンコロをチェックし、
外出中も、気になって、仕方がなかった。
I and Nanoka woke up and check the potate,
when coming home, check again,
and we thought about them for days even going out.

これが、人が、自分で、食べ物を育て、加工し、食べていた時代の
日々のワクワクなのだと思った。
もちろん、スーパーに行き、いつでも、必要なものが買える、
簡単さ、便利さ、効率の良さ、はない。
日々の生活を回すために、年中、作業を繰り返すことは、大変な苦労だ。
I realized this is the emotion that people used to feel
when they plant the food at their field, they process the food to preserve, and cook them to the table.
I noticed that made us so excited.
Now we can buy anything at any time at the supermarket.
Easy, convinient, and rational.

でも、同時に、必要なものを買う事では、感じることのない、
ワクワクがあったことを、知った。
But we might lose some excitement from everyday life.

今頃、魚目小学校でも、カンコロがカラカラになって、
毎日がワクワクして過ごした、子ども達は、大切な何かを一緒に得たことだろう。
At this moment, kids there must got dried sweet potate,
at the same time, something priceless and impotant.
