I am often asked why you didn't make 3D works. I did, actually, and I like working on 3D. I made some guarding dog and beckoning cat with ceramics and angel and devil and pig in metal. But I do not have any access to the workshop now and 3D works also take space then I rarely make them now.
さて、資料を整理していて、ニューヨークで私が一番さまよっていた時代の作品の写真が出て来た。まだ、絵本の出版が決まる前で、学校を辞めて、どうしたらいいのかわからなかった時に、展示に参加したのだ。私の作品は、「ドードー鳥の祠」だった。当時、公私ともに、ドードー鳥に夢中だったのだ。祠を作るからにはと、「ドードー教」という仮想の宗教まで設定していた。かなり、怪しげな宗教だった事は、祠の様子からわかるだろう。
I found old photos of exhibition in NY about Dodo Shrine. I was so devoted on Dodo birds at that time beside "I am Dodo" I made up the fake religion. It was really suspicious religion.
祠の中には、ご神体として、「装飾されたミイラ」を、怪しげな光で演出。曼荼羅のような絵が上に飾られ、垂れ幕も垂らし、

祠の横には、ドードーの物語が描かれている（逆側には、ドードーの幸せな時代の話が描かれてる）

こちらは、古代キリスト教の聖書をメトロポリタン美術館で見つけて、自分もメタルで聖書を作ってみたもの。美術史を勉強してるとわかるが、歴史の中で美術と宗教の関わりは深い。宗教は美しい美術品を生み出して来て、アートのパトロンであり、アートは宗教の表現者でもあった。宗教的な遺物には、心を惹かれるものが多い。
This is the metal bible. I got hint from real old bible of early Christianity. Always there has been strong relationship between art and religion. Religion was patron of artist and art was expressionest of religion. I have deep impression from religious icons.
なつかしいなあ、、、日本にも、もうちょっとスペースがあればなあ〜。
映画「クローサー」（イマイチな映画ですが）をカメラマンＨ嬢と見てた時、ロンドンのギャラリーでの写真展の様子を、「このスペースの取り方、日本じゃあり得ないよねえ、、、」という話になった。だいたい、写真展や美術展のオープニングで金曜日の夜をワイン片手に過ごすという図が人々に浸透してない上に、ギャラリー賃貸料が高い。何か、おもしろい事を表現したいな、と思っても、発表の場にたどり着くまでに、力つきてしまうのだ。
でも、また、こういう事もやりたいし、なんかいい方法があるといいなあ〜、と考えをめぐらすのだ。
I wish we had more space in Japan.
We do not have enought space to show our work-we do not havev galleries which are open to new voice and new talent. It is always expensive to rent and separated from people.
I am wondering if there is good way to do something fun like this.
