世界遺産への道行 Goto will be World Heritage

今回は、家族で、教会のミサに参列しました。My family and me went to join the mass in Goto.

上五島の南の方まで、足を伸ばしました。月１のミサへと、信徒さんが減っています。Small church in Kamigoto was about to expand the culture since the believer's number decreasing radically.

朝、フェリーに向かうラジオで知った、世界遺産登録に向けた勧告。
これから、さまざまなことが変化していくであろう上五島に、
その日に、向かうことに、不思議な気持ちになりました。
I heard the news on car radio going to the port
that churches and hidden Christian culture in Nagasaki and islands
would be the World Heritage by UNESCO.

私が会うどの人も、いつもと何一つ変わりない笑顔で
それを見て、ホッとしました。

世界遺産登録自体が、いいことなのか、悪いことなのか、今はわかりません。

目立った産業がなく、人口が激減している上五島に、
人を呼び寄せ、経済を活性化する意味では、観光業は起爆剤にはなるでしょう。
でも、同時に、慎ましやかな、静かな暮らしと、
素朴な信仰が、おびやかされる不安を、ちらほら、耳にしました。
I was not sure if it was good or bad for the people living there.
The populations is getthing low, and no strong production there
to keep young generations to the island, so sightseeing will be
the big wave to the island economy.
But at the same time, people there are scared of being disturbed
to live quietly to keep their simple faith.

「観光」とは、なんなのだろう？
わーっと、めずらしいものの場所に行き、写真を撮り、
美味しいものを食べ、お土産品を買って、帰る。
それだけだと、外の資本が流入して、
思うように、島の活性化にはつながらず、
むしろ、島の文化を損なってしまうことも。
（中央の資本の会社が、大型店舗を作ったら、
島の小さな産業は潰れてしまうでしょう）
What is Sightseeing?
Going somewhere to see something rare
and eat good thing, buy the souvenir.
But it does not help the region
since many big companies came over to make
"Sightseeing business" then made production outside
then actually they even took over small business in the area.

でも、ていねいに、文化を知る、旅人が増えれば、
島の産業を応援する商品を購入してくれ、
理解ある人が、全国に増え、
また、島に定住する人も増えていくかもしれない。
But if tourists are wiser and tried to know better about the region,
then buy to support the culture of the region,
then people who know better spread the world,
it will be big help-one of them might move to there.

少しでも、住人にとって、よいものになるよう、
島の人の生活を守り、文化を守り、幸せを守ることに、
貢献できるよう、みんなで、知恵を絞っていけたら、と願うのでした。
I just wish this movement would be good to people there.
To support their life, culture and happiness.
We should get together to bring each ideas to be good.
