Open Base 基地開放日

When I was in NY, July 4th meant BQ and firework day. I could see BQ everywhere and everybody enjoyed fireworks at night.７月4日と言えば、アメリカの独立記念日。ニューヨークにいた時は、「バーベキューと花火の日」だった。あちらこちらでバーベキューのお誘いの声がかかり（声がかからない人は、自分がやって誘う側になり）、夜になると、みんなで屋上に上がって、花火を見たものだ。

Sasebo has US Navy's base. On July 4th. they opened a part of the base for Sasebo citizen. My husband's colleague told him that there was huge huge stake there. Then he advised me to checked out how the base was like. He could not make it because he had to work(of course it is not holiday in Japan) I was not interested in huge stake, but other thing, so I went there with Nano. 日本には関係ない日だが、佐世保には米軍基地があるので、少し関係ある。米軍基地が一般市民に開放されるのだ。相方が、「こーんな、ふっとか（おおきな）ステーキがある」らしいと聞いてきて、「俺、（仕事で）行けないから、見てきてよ」と言ったので、基地とやらはどんなものか、見てくる事にした。

There were several American first food restaurants including Mcdonalds. It was not so fun. There was only one regular restaurant. I used toilet there and found a group of old Japanese men excited to hold the menue. I guess they were coming for huge stake.　セキュリティを通って中に入ると、ファーストフード店がいくつか並んでいた。マクドナルドでは、ドナルド（日本人のお兄ちゃん）が来てたので、他に特にめぼしいイベントもなさそうなので、ナノカも参加させてみた。ひとつだけ、薄暗い、ちゃんとしたレストランがあり、そこには、日本人のおじちゃんの集団がうれしそうにメニューを見ていたので、多分、「ふとかステーキ」はここで食べられるのだと思った。

I shopped some second hand clothing for Nano and me at thrift shop and bought Turkey leg and American cookie for husband.　私の目的はスーパーの輸入食材売り場だったのだが、スーパーはビジター立ち入り禁止だったので、チャリティーの古着屋でナノに服を買って、グラウンドのテントでターキーの足を買って、マクドナルドでみんなが「これこれー」と言って並んで買っていた、クッキーを買った。

To catch the last bus home at 7:30 I had to leave there before dark. Actually with heavy bags and Nano, it was long long way back to the city center. Husband really liked cookie saying "I want to eat them" even 3 days later. We tried to see the fireworks from our building parking a lot but Nano cried and gave up. That was our July 4th.最終バスが７時半なので、それまでに街まで戻ろうと早めに出た。重い荷物を持つと、かなり遠く感じた。こんなに買うんじゃなかったと思ったけど、相方はアンヘルシーなアメリカンクッキーを数日後になっても「また、あれが食いたい」と言う程気に入ったようだし、ナノカはいかにも向こうのデザインのスカートやらを気に入ったようだし、苦労のかいがあったようだ。ちなみに、花火はナノカはまだムリみたいです。

Sasebo port is devided by three major organisations, US Navy, Japanese Self defence force, and SSK, Sasebo shipyard. Usually we cannot enter the US base, but on July 4th, they opened it for the Sasebo citizen. It was storm raining from the morning and I thought I could not go, but it stopped afternoon and I ran to there with Nano. It is only chance to check out the inside through a year. I was expecting to buy some import ingredients at supermarket there, but it was not open to visitors. The inside base was like US country side town or inside of college or something. I could not see any BQ. （Video is :Nano joined the event of Donald's, but she did not understand it at all but tried to participate others)佐世保湾は、米軍、自衛隊、SSKという大きな組織で３等分して使われている。アメリカ軍基地は普段は一般人立ち入り禁止で、うちのマンションからはなんとなく「あそこに住んで、あそこが公園かなあ」という感じで見えるものの、いったい中がどうなっているのかは、わからない。７月4日に基地が一般市民に開放されると聞いて、見てくる事にした。中では、ドルでしか買い物ができず、家族連れが普通に、アメリカのように生活できるようになっている。雰囲気としては、アメリカのカントリーサイドの街という感じだろうか。中だけで不足はないようにできてるのかもしれないけど、買い物や食事の選択肢も狭いし、ずっと中にいると退屈だろうなあ、とは思った。米軍の人はわりと佐世保の街をウロウロしているのだが、理解できる気がする。（ビデオは、ドナルドのイベントに、ナノを突っ込んでみたのだが、全く何が起きているのかわからず、ただ、みんなに合わせて盛り上がっている様子です）
