My present dream

Recently I got the chance to talk with the young fellows who want to live on art.

I am still under developing and I have nothing I can advice them. But they were introduced to me because I am not big but just a little ahead of them. It is more realistic to them. They are all pure and full of ideal and dream. I used to be like that. I want them to do their best and I wonder if I should give them advice to go on realistic way.

I was asked "what is your life goal?" and I answered "I just want to keep drawing and writing books for my life. I want to express what I will be feeling one by one and spend whole my life. If I got the specious book from them, it will be great." Then I was asked, "Really? Don't you want to be rich and famous?" I thought about it, and I noticed that it might be easier for me to concentrate on the art and books if I became richer and famous, but that it was not my goal. So I understand what the young artists are feeling.

It is radically difficult to exchange art and letters into money. Even after you became professional, it is not easy to earn incomes on steady base. One day it is suddenly cut off, no money to eat sometime, and we get severe refuse or rude treatment. I got down so many times.

But I try not to care more than a few days. I went through those experiences, and I got used to be unstable nature of my job. To keep being, there is only answer to how to live.

Fundamentally this is harder condition for the men. No job, no income, is not easy things to handle. When they are younger, they can follow their ideal with passion, but gradually difficult to keep energy.Once they got family, it is much serious.

For artists, job is their pride as others. We still count on how much the buyers put on their art. If one paid 100¥ and another paid 10.000¥, we feel the latter appreciated our art more. If all the people buy our art with 100¥, artist feel like he is 100¥ artist. In that way, we tried to earn reasonable money from our art. That keeps us to be proud of ourselves as artists. Living is not all money matter, but money is a part of that. We need to treat it in proper way.

Thought of those things, I wonder what is my present life goal. I still want to keep being artist and author for my life. If I can do it in good circumstances, it will be so great-with book shelf over the wall, surrounded by nature, good people, sometimes travel to draw and research. It is good enough to keep dreaming same thing. Maybe those young fellows will study by themselves from their experiences. I do not have to say much things.
Getting older is losing energy, narrowing the possibilities. But at the same time, the life is more realistic. We know better what we can. We cannot say, "I can be a baseball player or Doctor" but wen can say, "through my job, I want to bring this event open and connect neighbor people" There is many thing we can operate by narrowing. Getting old is the fruits of our life.

Stamina Dish

It is too hot. I saw so many people losing their appetite and eating only cold food such as noodle and ice cream. It is not good. But it is harder to cook in this heat.

Stewed Chiken liber is one of my original recipe. It is very easy, cheap and convinient dish. There are many fans asking me to cook again or recipe. I can recommend it for the dish going with steamed rice in this season.

I cannot give precise recipe, though. I just always cook by my feeling. But it is always good and I guess it is not so big mistake even you put a little more soy sorce, or sake. (put Chiken liber 300g into the source, 3 sake, 3 mirin, 1 1/2 sugar, 3 soy source, shreded ginger and shreded garlic. stay 30 min)

Stew them in the pod with slightly warmed with sesami oil aroun 30 min. You can put thread konnyaku if you like it.

Fin. You can put green onion or sesami for decoration.

Octopus Kiss!

We, all my girlfriends in NY loved SATC. We talked about it and we agreed that the worst boyfriend of Carrie, the main character of the SATC, was Burger. He was difficult man. Anyway, there is the episode that Carrie tried to say good things about him to friends, and she said, "Well, he has good point, for example, he made up French Kiss,,,"

What she called French Kiss was the original kiss that he invested. It was like dancing and caught people's eyes when they did it in front of the court. Anyway, as for Carrie's word, the original meant something for the couple.

On the other day, we were watching the news about World Cup. I hit an idea! Related to the hottest ocopus, Pawl,

I made up "Octopus Kiss!" Well, it is not sophisticated originality? It reminds me the kiss of the old comic-a kind of Nostargia. Why don't you try it?

Pigllet's mask

Can you do what you love as job?

I was graduated from university in Liberal Arts. Fellow students there became successful business people after graduation.

One of them asked me, "Don't you feel uncomfortable about doing what you love as your job? You cannot escape from the job and you will gradually hate what you love most since it is now your source of income. I keep what I love most as hobby."

What he wanted to say to me is "Is it OK for you to change your natural expression, or pleasure by commercialised aspect?"
It depends on what one chose as a life stance. I chose what I love as a job, so I love my job. At the same time, it is not purely enjoyment. There is no boundary between job and privacy. It is all from one pocket-job, life and expression. But that is my life. I do not know other way of seeing. It could be good life as well to separate job from pleasure. But for me it looks uncomfortable.
We both used to study next to each other and saw same things from similar point of view. Over 10 years brought such a big difference to us. The life is so interesting, I always thought when I met old fellows.

Nuts and Mountain Cat

Kenji Miyazawa, is an author of books for children. I first read his work when I was around 7 and I became big fan of him. I read up all his complete works in the library. His story had some kinds of image of color, wind and smell. When I hear the word "story" it reminds his world. His works were so big parts of my childhood reading experience. I got the chance to illustrate his story as a part of a short stories book for school kids. I was narvous but happy. This story, "Nuts and Mountain cat" is light funny story, so I tried to keep light pop image for kids to enjoy the story.

Ichiro, the boy, received the invitation letter from Mountain cat to the court.

On his way, he met the mashroom band.

Mountain cat is rather funny cat who acted like old businessperson. He is suffering from giving judge to the complicated trial.

The trial is about "who is the best nuts" and they each insist on "Size!""Hight""Roundness""Sharpness!" How would Ichiro give them final judge?

My friend's husband cannot swim fast but he can swim long. He said, "I have survival ability!" My friend gave him cold respond, "Yeah? so please rescue me when the tragedy occurs, but it is useless in daily life."

I laughed. I said to her, "You can say that because you trust him to rescue you and your baby surely when the natural calamity happens. It is family!"

I read the article about successful business men. There were many men who had wife and children, but he lost attention to their family any more and enjoyed the life with young beautiful affairs. The writer asked them the question "You, your wife, your child and your affair are all in the sinking ship. There is only space for two people in a boat. What are you going to do?" And surprisingly all the men answered "wife and child" even their relationship are already cold. They must have some kinds of trust as guardians of his DNA on their wives.

On the other hand, even it is hot, there is the relationship that is not filled in,

and the women feel "This man might leave me (and my baby) and run by himself,,," in some parts of their mind. There could be women who are strong enough to keep a boat to ready to survive, too.
