In Japan, there is the custom that one year birthday baby carry the "isshou-mochi"-it means 1 shou(1.8kg)rice cake. It is of course too heavy for the baby and they cried and fell. It has meaning that they would have no trouble about food for their life. I bought rice cake and put it into furoshiki and let Nano to carry. I was afraid that she carried with no problem since she is so strong, but it was heavy even for her and she cried. It is said that better for baby to fall and cry. 一升餅やりました。うちの両親はこの習慣を知らず、私はやらなかったけど、相方はやったんだそうです（本人は知らなかった。相方、両親談）。商店街のお餅屋さんでお餅は注文（この辺りでは、誕生踏み餅、と言って、踏むんだそうですが）それを風呂敷で包んで、背負わせて（嫌がるのを押さえつけて）、立たせました。これは、「一生（一升）、食べ物に困らない」という願いを込めた習慣なのだそう。立って、てくてく歩かない方がいい、との説もあり（これぐらいの時期には、歩かない子も多いし）若干、たくましく、歩き回ってるナノカが、一升餅を担いで、歩き回ったらどうしようかと思ってたのですが、普通に転び、泣いてました。さて、この大量のお餅を、どうやって食べましょうかねえ。
