Dream to be rich!

Men love to talk about "dreamy story". They are like, "succeed in new business" or "constant income during playing" or "built own shop of full of dream". It is fine as long as jokes or light topic over wine, but it was not so fine for the partners.

My friend felt fed up with her husband's "Our rich plan". She was happy to talk when they were lovers, but she was bored after marriage and now she was irritated because she was busy for baby. His story has no construction, realistic vision, calculation or action. She needs 100$ for baby rather than 100,000,000$ in the dream.

Now we are educated as sexual equally. The women should be independent, so it is hard for us to say,"please support family!" to the man. Then man bought 10.000$ camera for his someday's dream story. Women did not complain but left in a while if it was too unrealistic life.

It might be simpler to be the young couples that wives can complain"Earn more for baby" and husbands complain "you are too realistic" but he works for family and they have a busy life but raised kids OK as a result.

We do not want to say much, but maybe this is destiny of the women,,,Even in Edo era(400 years ago) men said, "I want to be a big in Tokyo" and wives said "Don't be silly. Just take a look aver the documents!" We repeated this over and over.

During my stay at my parent's house, I looked over my old sketchbooks. I brought sketchbooks wherever I go and their number already got over 30. I made some idea sketchbooks and project books beside of them. Can be over 100 in total. I should throw away some of them. I found some interesting ideas inside some old sketchbooks. Once I finished the sketchbook, I rarely looked at it again. I should check them once in a while.

This is the memo I drew listening to the lecture. So much pictures for lecture,,,but I can recognised some of the people's face whom I already forgot the existence. Picture reminds me even his character and some words. I felt the effect of picture. If I took memo only by letters, I could not remember those small impressions.

I found the very first sketch of Dodo story. I can see it was almost same story from the beginning. Well, Dodo bird looked not so friendly at the beginning,,,
Artists' sketchbooks(notebooks) differ from ordinal one. On the other day, my boyfriend is reading the business book "those who can think visually will be successful." I had no chance to read business books, but it was interesting. When I was in NY, an illustrator told me an interesting job opportunity. We went to Princeton University and taught the accountant scholars how to make the logo. Of course they do not need to make the logo for their lives. The main purpose there was "brain shuffle". For those number-based people had tendency to think and it is very useful for them to experience visual lesson. I wish I would teach that kind of class to business men or elite government officers.

Hot Spring

Originally Japanese have mixed bathing culture. Now it is not so common, but still remains. I got three chances to take mixed bathing after I got older.

First, I was around 20, and I went to northern area of Japan with my friend. It was in mountaineer side and that hot spring was for long term stay to medication. We got big cultural shock. It was an old dirty wooden building and old men and women(we could not judge at a glance) slept all over the floor of the room and naked old woman walked a hallway and at the end of the hallway, there was door directly to bath-open to outside-there was no changing room. We were not brave enough to wash ourselves next to wrinkled men and women in the nature. We gave up.

Secondary, it was the time when I went to Yarigatake mountaineer good inn as family trip. My mom and I were bathing outside mixed bath since there was nobody around. But when we were in the tub, a man came. I did not bring bath towel,,,

and asked my mom, "You are middle age and married, so you are fine, but I am younger and not married." and got her bath towel. Poor mom!

I refused mixed bathing by getting mom's bath towel, but I got third time recently and I accepted as natural thing. Am I older and feel less shyness? No, I just got used to it(I think,,,,)
That hot spring is Simobe Onsen and the bath name is Gensenkan. Very unique old hot spring that water springs under the tab. It is not hot, and good for this hot season. Try it if you have a chance!

Narrative 1

Narrative is one of the important words in the field of illustration.

In the typography class of Art school, teacher gave us to re-design the magazine articles or making poster with type as assignments. But my teacher always criticized my work as "this is narrative"

For example, narrative poster is like this. It shows the story that a doggy felt ashamed about his poop since he had affection to this passing lovely dog. It took 3 seconds to catch the idea.

In the field of graphic design especially poster, the most important things is instant message. It should be direct and strong. 3 seconds is too long. Sensitive humor is not working.

I was down. However after children's book class started, "Narrative" turned to be complement from criticise. We need story to each pictures to carry the story going though a book. It makes the book believable as a world.
Now I understand very well what typography teacher wanted to say. I was using same language(narrative art) to the different world. They were both pictures, but they are fundamentally different.
Narrative is the best word to show myself. I wish Japanese had same word.

Marriage education

For last a few years, I got chances to talk with many people about what is the most important for choosing life partner.

In NY, there are so many different cultures and way of life. So it is common to think about "which point we cannot accept" and "which points are not so serious and we have to take it easy" for two different people to live a life together.

My friend, A, told me her thought of marriage. "I am only child and I have no brothers or sisters. So I will be alone after my parents died. It means that my husband is the person to share my whole life. I have been thinking of marriage since I was a child." Her parents are very good couple who is necessary for life each other. That gave her image "the life is created by two people as unit." Then She chose her "funny comfortable life partner"

My parents gave me some advices but fundamentally they left me final decision of any life choice(schools, occupations, and marriage). So it is common for me to choose one as my responsiblities(I made some mistakes in my life maybe). About marriage, it is one of them.
But I noticed that it is not always common for everybody. Especially about marriage some cannot make their own decision. Recently I heard the story that 34 year-old woman gave up marriage just because her parents light objection. Well, parents can have some objection to some aspects, but it is the couple to let them understand that two can do well as a unit. If it is easily broken by a small objection,I doubt if the love there is true. But it might be so different for each person. Until recently there had been no freedom for themselves to choose job, school and partner. In some cultures, it still goes on. I cannot understand from my point of view. For those, I am wrong. I am also educated by my parents about life, about marriage, in other way around.

Mother

I went out with my mom. It was a long time after I went out with her last time. I was impressed by how much she talked and how funny she was.

She would dress up as a Cyndrella's stepmom in a few days. She talked about the costume. She would use tights to make hair bonnet. And she talked about pink dress that she used to have. She wore that when she was in her 40's. She said "I looked nice in the dress on the picture." That was so vivid pink that I could not wear even now.

We went to shop the sweets for my exhibition staff. I was watching the prety cakes in the showcase and my mom said, "choose whatever you want. It is for your birthday." My birthday is September 24th. Which birthday was she talking about?

Anyway I got cakes. Probably she bought it for me since I presented grobes and hat for her birthday in May. Cakes were so good.

Cable TV station came to the exhibition to shoot for the news.

There was almost no visitor since it was the weekday. We need the natural cut that visitors were looking at exhibition, so we asked the only family there and people working there.

I got a short interview. I was not good at talking in clever way. This time, I had strong will to speak like sophisticated author, but I failed. I respected all other interviewee in the world. sigh.
